Halal literacy is an important aspect of medicine selection, particularly for Diploma III (D3) Pharmacy students as prospective pharmacy personnel who will address patients’ informational needs and religious beliefs. This article aims to analyze halal literacy and medicine selection behavior by integrating the examination of critical points in pharmaceutical ingredients, Halal Product Assurance (JPH) regulations, and their implications for vocational education curricula. An integrative literature review approach was employed to examine publications concerning knowledge and attitudes toward halal medicines, the sources of active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients, medicine selection behavior, and the implementation of halal regulations in the pharmaceutical sector. The synthesis indicates that positive awareness and attitudes toward halal medicines have been reported in several studies; however, technical understanding of ingredient sources, manufacturing processes, and halal status verification remains a challenge. Gelatin, magnesium stearate, glycerol, ethanol, and enzyme-based materials are examples of components that require further examination based on their sources and manufacturing processes. Medicine selection behavior is influenced not only by knowledge but also by attitudes, social norms, product availability, access to information, and clinical needs. Therefore, halal literacy should be integrated into D3 Pharmacy curricula through learning activities involving the identification of critical ingredient points, verification of manufacturer information, understanding of halal certification, and professional communication with patients. This review recommends further empirical research to directly assess students’ halal literacy and evaluate the effectiveness of its integration into pharmacy education.
