Abstract

The development of pharmaceutical sciences plays an important role in improving healthcare quality, ensuring medicine safety, and meeting public demand for halal pharmaceutical products. From an Islamic perspective, this development can be understood as an implementation of the obligation to seek knowledge for the benefit of humanity. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the Islamic obligation to seek knowledge and the development of pharmaceutical sciences, particularly in relation to maqasid al-shariah, pharmaceutical halal assurance, raw material independence, and environmental sustainability. The study employs a qualitative library research approach using a narrative literature review. Data were drawn from the Qur’an, hadith, scientific literature, regulations, and publications concerning halal pharmaceuticals and green pharmacy. The data were analyzed through source selection, thematic categorization, cross-source comparison, and conceptual synthesis. The findings indicate that pharmaceutical development is relevant to the principle of hifz al-nafs through the development of safe, high-quality, and effective medicines. Integrating Islamic values also involves ingredient transparency, innovation in halal alternatives, strengthening pharmaceutical independence, and environmental responsibility. The study concludes that Islamic values can provide an ethical foundation for responsible pharmaceutical development without replacing scientific methods and standards. As this research is based on literature, its findings are conceptual and require further empirical investigation.
