Abstract

Advances in health science and technology offer opportunities to improve healthcare services while raising challenges related to professional competence, patient safety, data protection, and the ethical use of technology. From an Islamic perspective, the obligation to seek knowledge provides a conceptual foundation for understanding the responsibility to develop knowledge for human welfare. This study aims to analyze the relevance of the Islamic obligation to seek knowledge to the development of health science and technology. It employs a qualitative approach through a literature review. The sources include the Qur’an, hadith, scientific literature, and institutional documents on digital health, artificial intelligence, patient safety, and technology ethics. The literature was analyzed descriptively by identifying key ideas, comparing perspectives across sources, and developing a conceptual synthesis. The findings indicate that the Islamic value of seeking knowledge is relevant to professional competence, lifelong learning, and social responsibility in the use of health technology. The review also indicates that the benefits of technology depend not only on technical sophistication but also on the quality of scientific evidence, user competence, patient safety, privacy protection, accountability, and equitable access. The study concludes that religious values and scientific methods can complement each other in guiding the responsible development of health science and technology. As this study is based on a literature review, its findings are conceptual and require further empirical investigation.
