Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology in education, including the field of social science education. This study aims to map the knowledge development, intellectual structure, and global research trends regarding the application of AI in social science education through a bibliometric analysis approach. Data were collected from scientific publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection database and analyzed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. The analysis focused on publication trends, country and institutional contributions, author collaboration networks, citation patterns, and research themes based on keyword co-occurrence. The findings reveal that AI research in education has grown rapidly, with major themes including intelligent learning technologies, personalized learning, AI literacy, ethical AI adoption, critical thinking development, and the relationship between AI, motivation, and student engagement. Recent research trends indicate a shift from technology-centered perspectives toward more pedagogical and human-centered approaches. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the global research landscape of AI in social science education and highlights future research directions for effective, ethical, and sustainable AI integration in educational contexts.
